Abstract

The English/Touzel/Hathorne Papers contain shipping records of Philip English (1651-1736) and John Touzel (bp1687-1737); goldsmith and dry goods business records of John Touzel (1727-1785), John Hathorne (1748-1834), and Benjamin Herbert Hathorne (1773-1824); and personal and legal papers of various family members.

Abstract Notable for its rarity (over 90% of the ephemera processed is unique to the Phillips Library) and its diversity, the Essex County Advertising Ephemera Collection represents over 300 years of design, printing, advertising, and social history. The bulk of the ephemera dates from the mid-nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century, with particular strength in late nineteenth-century materials.
